Today I’m going to be sharing one of the easiest spaghetti recipes ever. You can actually have this instant pot spaghetti ready to go and perfectly cooked without constantly having to monitor and stir your pasta (this is why I love my instant pot so much).

Just add in the spaghetti noodles, a bit of olive oil, some water, and a pinch of salt and then let your instant pot work its magic. Make sure to use authentic extra-virgin olive oil when making this recipe to ensure that it’s heart-healthy for you and your young ones.

What I love most about this instant pot spaghetti is how absolutely convenient it is without sacrificing texture or flavor. Give it a try! You’ll never just boil your spaghetti noodles again.

Instant Pot Spaghetti Noodle Ingredients

  • Spaghetti Noodles- While any spaghetti noodles will work, I suggest avoiding the cheapest brands like Creamette and use a brand like DeCecco or Barilla, as well as using a standard spaghetti and not ‘thin spaghetti’. By using something a little higher quality and the standard thickness, you’ll get that perfect al dente bite, and the texture of the spaghetti noodles (when cooked in an instant pot) will be PERFECT.
  • Olive oil- Make sure it’s extra virgin olive oil! It really does make a big difference in taste.
  • Salt- Any salt will do (but I prefer sea salt).

How to Make Spaghetti Noodles in an Instant Pot

You’ll start out by taking 12 ounces of spaghetti noodles and breaking them in half before adding them into the instant pot. Next, add in the two tablespoons of olive oil, three cups of water, and a pinch of salt.

Press your spaghetti noodles down into the water and then seal up the instant pot, being sure to turn the venting knob to ‘SEALING’. You can then press the ‘PRESSURE LOCK’ button (double check that the pressure mode is set to ‘High’), and adjust the timer for approximately four minutes.

After the four minutes is up, leave the pressure to come down naturally for about 10 minutes or so before quick releasing the rest of the pressure. Open up the lid, stir the noodles, and then you’ll be all set to serve the spaghetti along with your favorite sauce.

Is This Spaghetti Noodle Recipe Keto Friendly?

Unfortunately, because you’ll be using traditional pasta noodles to make this spaghetti, this recipe is definitely not keto friendly (or even paleo friendly, for that matter).

There’s no need to fret though as you can still definitely make ridiculously good keto friendly spaghetti with your instant pot. You’ll just need to get a little bit creative with your ingredient choices.

One of the most common ways to make keto style spaghetti is to simply swap out the spaghetti noodles for spiralized veggie noodles. The two most popular choices for low carb veggie ‘spaghetti’ are typically either squash or zucchini.

My Spaghetti Keeps Sticking to the Side of My Instant Pot

The easiest way to avoid this is to make sure that you break your spaghetti noodles in half before adding them into the instant pot (there’s indeed a method to the madness after all!), while also making sure to take a bit of extra time to press your noodles down into the water before sealing your instant pot.

You’re also going to want to resist the urge to give your spaghetti a stir before you cook the noodles as well. This also applies if you’re planning on cooking a spaghetti sauce to go along with the noodles. You’ll want to fully cook the sauce first, and then add in your pasta noodles afterwards, without stirring them.

  1. I had low expectations for this because my instant pot tends to fail a lot. But this worked and my husband said the noodles were better, more plump, that when boiled. Thanks!!

FAQs

Can I boil pasta in an Instant Pot without lid? ›

Boiling water without the lid in an Instant Pot can be useful for various cooking techniques such as blanching vegetables, cooking pasta, or preparing hot beverages where you may not require the pressure or moisture retention that the lid provides.

Can pasta be cooked in Instant Pot? ›

Combine 1 pound penne, 4 cups water and 2 teaspoons kosher salt in an Instant Pot® multi-cooker. Follow the manufacturer's guide for locking the lid and preparing to cook. Set to pressure cook on high for 5 minutes.

How to keep spaghetti noodles from sticking together in Instant Pot? ›

Yes, I always recommend adding olive oil to the Instant Pot when cooking pasta. This helps make sure the noodles don't stick together and, as an added bonus, helps prevent starchy water spewing everywhere when you release the pressure. About 1 tablespoon per 8oz should do the trick.

Why do you not stir pasta in Instant Pot? ›

Resist the urge to stir after the pasta is added.

As soon as you've got the pasta in the pot and the water over it, put the lid on. You can give the pasta a gentle prod, but do not stir, which will give you gummy, stuck-together pasta.

Is it better to boil pasta with or without lid? ›

Cover your pan with a lid to help bring the water up to the boil more quickly, then remove the lid once the water is boiling or reduce the temperature slightly to stop it bubbling over. Add the pasta to the water once it's boiling, never before, and cook without the lid.

Can I boil pasta without a lid? ›

Leaving the pot uncovered is also key because pasta should be stirred frequently to prevent sticking. Plus, because pasta should be cooked until al dente, a lid will make it hard to decipher how far along you are in the process, and might even lead to mushy noodles, which is the last thing you want.

How long to cook spaghetti noodles? ›

The most popular way to cook spaghetti is simple. Put the pasta into plenty of boiling water, stir it, bring it to a simmer, turn the heat off, put a lid on and leave it to finish cooking for 10-12 mins. This method works perfectly fine.

Will pasta cook in just hot water? ›

If you mean water that is 'only just hot' then no, you will need to bring it to a boil before you put the pasta in. If you mean 'just water and nothing else' then yes! Here is how I cook my pasta: cook fully in water, turn out into a colander to drain, with a small pot underneath to catch some of the starchy water.

What is the pasta to water ratio? ›

To begin with, you should keep in mind the right quantities. In Italy, the golden rule for cooking pasta is 1, 10, 100 or 1 liter of water, 10 grams of salt for every 100 grams of pasta. Converted for American cooks, the rule should be 1/3, 3, 30, referring to 1/3 oz of salt, 3 oz of pasta and 30 oz of water.

How long to cook dried spaghetti? ›

Cooking instructions on a typical package of dry spaghetti read as follows:
  1. Bring 4 quarts of water to a rolling boil.
  2. Add 1 pound of dry spaghetti.
  3. Cook 10–12 minutes, stirring frequently.
  4. Drain.

Why do you not drain pasta? ›

There's another benefit of using pasta water: By not rinsing your pasta, you're keeping a nice coating of starch that'll bind the pasta itself to the sauce, creating yet even more harmony on your plate. (Some people also claim pasta water makes your dish more flavorful, but that's for super refined palates.)

What can happen to the pasta if it isn t stirred immediately upon adding to water? ›

If pasta is just put into the pot and left there, the pasta at the top can get glued together and stick. They key is to “stir the pasta” or agitate it. This rinses the starch off the hard pasta noodle so that it can absorb water and not the gluey substance from the exploding starches and water.

What happens if you stir pasta? ›

Stir the pasta right after you add it to the water and then occasionally throughout the cooking time to prevent clumping. If you don't stir, any strands of touching pasta will cook together and become stuck together. Stirring also ensures that the pasta is cooked evenly.

How often should you stir pasta while cooking? ›

You want to stir your pasta when you first place it in the water and perhaps once or twice while it's cooking to prevent it from clumping together. Otherwise, leave it alone and let it do its thing.

Why do we need to stir gently when cooking pasta? ›

Give your pasta a good stir upon first adding it to the pot, since this is when there's more chance of sticking together before it releases starches. Stir once in a while during the cooking process as well, to ensure the pasta doesn't stick to the pot.

Why should you quickly stir the pasta in the first few minutes of cooking? ›

💥 At that point, all the broken starchy bits are released into the water. But that process mostly happens in the first couple of minutes of cooking pasta. So simply stir vigorously a few times when you first add the pasta to the water. That will disperse the sticky starch molecules off the pasta and into the water.
