Oak trailer decking is strong and has good shock resistance elasticity properties. It is a good weather resistant decking lumber. It comes in as a good local alternative to the highly priced imported tropical woods as Apitong ( Keruing ), Teak and Purple Heart. These indeed are premium materials that are strong and long lasting but often are many times higher in price than what we offer. Trailer decking is suspended off the ground and has good airflow around it. Many find oak lumber very satisfactory. It with stands the weather longer than pressure treated pine decking. It accepts rugged wear and weight even as it ages.

We select high grade oak logs for all our material.

We manufacture 2 different types of solid oak trailer flooring.
(1) Rough Cut. This is our most popular request. We are diligent to keep very tight tolerance of exactly the dimension you need. We cut our boards with thin kurf band saw sawmills which makes for a surprisingly smooth surface. After repeated use, boards basically become naturally smooth.
(2) Shaped / Molded Oak Lumber product. We offer a few different styles of shiplap and tongue and groove oak decking in a variety of thickness. All shaped lumber is kiln dried.

Custom Dimensions Available!
We cut lumber 8 foot to trailer length decking up to 32 feet long. We can cut up to 3” or greater thickness and as wide needed within reason. Generally 12” widths is our maximum width. We can cut custom orders to meet your specifications. Let us know the material you need and we will prepare your lumber for you, true dimensions for your needs.

Here are common dimensions of mixed oak rough cut boards and their price each.
1 1/2” x 8” x 12’ = $27.30
1” x 5.5” x 16’ ———— $17.23 each oak board ( shown to compare similar width of our oak boards to the common 2x6 pressure treated pine )

    FAQs

Is Oak good for trailer decking? ›

One wood commonly used for LTF is Red Oak. Red Oak is a more durable option than Douglas Fir, but still is not necessarily the best wood for trailer decking. This is because, compared to other woods, Red Oak is not necessarily the most stable wood available.

What is the best pressure treated wood for trailer decking? ›

Pressure-treated pine is a cost-effective choice for those on a tight budget. At the same time, oak and apitong wood decking offer superior strength and durability for heavy-duty applications.

What is the best wood for heavy equipment trailers? ›

For heavy duty applications, tropical hardwood lumber in such species as Purpleheart, Greenheart, Angelim Pedra, Tatajuba and Keruing / Genuine Apitong offer the best durability and life expectancy.

What is the life expectancy of oak decking? ›

Softwood decking will typically last between 10 to 15 years and will need to be regularly treated. Well-maintained hardwood decking can last for longer and, in some cases, can last for as long as 25 years. Regularly oiling, cleaning, and refinishing will be needed.

What is the hardest wood for trailer decks? ›

Modulus of Rupture (MOR) Strength Ratings for Various Species of Wood (psi)
    • Purpleheart 21,300 psi.
    • Apitong, Keruing 19,900 psi.
    • Brazilian Apitong, Angelim Pedra 18,255 psi.
    • White Oak 15,200 psi.
    • Bamboo 15,050 psi.
    • Red Oak 14,300 psi.
    • Southern Yellow Pine 13,500 psi.

What is the best wood to replace a trailer floor? ›

Pressure treated Pine flooring is the most commonly used wood flooring material in trailers. The abundant supply of Pine wood in the south coupled with its sturdy nature make for a solid basic flooring choice.

What is the best flooring for a trailer? ›

Vinyl flooring is a top pick for enclosed and cargo trailers because it's tough and can handle heavy loads. Its shiny finish helps keep moisture and UV rays at bay, which is perfect for snowmobile trailer floors. Just be cautious, though, as it can get slippery when wet and might be prone to punctures.

Should you seal a wood trailer deck? ›

Like most wood structures, trailer decks must be sealed and stained for protection. You should purchase stains and sealants with water-repellent properties and UV resistance, ensuring that your deck looks good as new even after several years.

How do I keep my trailer wood from rotting? ›

Sealant is the best way to protect wood trailer floors from damage. By adding a coating over the wood, you can prevent most types of damages. A sealant will prevent scratches, dents, and other abrasions while keeping moisture away from the wood through a protective barrier.

What is the best trailer for hauling building materials? ›

Flatbed trailers have a flat deck, no roof and open sides. There are many types of flatbed trailers, so you can find one that suits your needs. They're perfect for hauling smaller pieces of construction equipment and materials.

What size trailer will hold a cord of wood? ›

Ideally you'd have a 4x8 trailer with 4ft removable sides. The problem is there arn't very many 4x8 trailers with 4000 lb capacity for a cord of wet wood. The other option is a much larger trailer but that's annoying. My 1954 Montgomery Ward trailer is 5x7 and can be stacked with just under a cord to max stack.

Is red oak or white oak better for trailer decking? ›

However, they have different properties. For instance, white oak is stronger of the two and much more resistant to rotting. It is suitable for building boats and outdoor furniture while red oak wood should be used only for cabinets and indoor furniture.

What is the best material for trailer floors?

Is oak better than pressure-treated wood? ›

Oak is known for being exceptionally durable, and an untreated oak wood fence can last longer than a fence made of pressure-treated pine. Untreated oak fences can last up to 20 years. Oak is available in a wide variety of colors and has a beautiful natural grain pattern.
