Keyboard Development & Document FormattingChoose one - BTECA 100 Business Keyboarding: Key the Alphabet by Touch (1 credit)
Course purpose: Introduces the letters of the keyboard and how to type by touch using home row for the purpose of performing clerical duties efficiently in an office environment. and Course purpose: Introduces numbers and symbols of the keyboard, separate from the ten-key often available on a standard keyboard. This is useful for developing skills with data entry that requires both numbers, symbols, and letters simultaneously, so students’ fingers don’t leave home row. or and Course purpose: These courses assist youwith continuous development of keyboard speed, accuracy and technique while simultaneously applying keyboarding skills to create basic business documents.

PC Operating System/Microsoft Word (Computer Application Lab courses)If you are unsure which course to take, please see your advisor to determine which 2-6 of these courses best align with your needs (for a total of 2-6 credits). Course purpose:Prepares youfor the Microsoft Office classes teaching management of files and folders and the use of Windows desktop. Basic computer literacy skills, such as minimize, maximize and personalizing the desktop.Office skills require a basic understanding of computers and file management ability, i.e. naming and organizing files and folders. or/and - BTECA 110 Microsoft Word: Prepare and Edit Documents (1 credit)

Course purpose:Word courses prepare youfor typing documents and learning a wide breadth of what the software is capable of in an office setting.Understanding the wide capabilities of the Microsoft Word software helps develop efficient office administrator skills making employees quicker and more organized with their workload when dealing with the written communication in an office setting. and - BTECA 113 Microsoft Word: Track Changes, Editing and Design (1 credits)

Course purpose:Support class to help with Computer and KeyboardingInstruction, navigating Canvas, and overall college experience. In addition, exposure to some basic math in order to prepare them for BTECA 117.

Course purpose:A foundational course to explore and affirm a career choice and build upon the skills, knowledge, and resources that will support you at Pierce College and beyond. Note:The College Success course you select will depend on the Career Pathway Map you are following. Your advisor will assist you in selectingeitherthe 3- or5- credit version of the course. Should you choose to repeat a College Success courseyoumust enroll in a College Success course with the same credit amount as theoriginalcourse;a COLLG 110coursegrade can only be replaced with a grade from another COLLG 110 courseand a COLLG 115coursegrade can only be replaced with a grade from another COLLG 115course.

9. Business English II- BTECA 116 Business English II (3 credits)
Course purpose: Further study and practice with the writing process to create effective business memoranda, letters, and short reports. Youwill continue to build a stong business vocabulary and fluency with punctuation and rules. Job applicants must be able to write coherent messages with correct grammar for internal and external communication.

Course purpose:Support class to help with Computer, Keyboarding, and Business English II, navigating Canvas and the overall college experience. In addition, continued exposure to some basic math in order to prepare them for BTECA 117.
13. Business Mathematics- BTECA 117 Business Mathematics (5 credits)
Course purpose: Students practice skills in banking such as keeping a checkbook and balancing it. Solving for equations for the unknown. Practicing percent and fractions. Understanding discounts, markups, and markdowns. Insight into perishables, simple interest promissory notes, discount notes, and the discount process, compound interest and present value. Installment buying and revolving credit, basic statistics, metric supplement depreciation, inventory, and overhead. Industry often requires basic bookkeeping and collection of funds from invoices and calculation of purchase orders. Math knowledge is necessary to write correct formulas in often used Excel spreadsheets for budgeting and other financial purposes.

Course purpose: You will be introduced to topics that occur in a Medical Office setting. In this course you will learn about the history of healthcare systems, overview of types of healthcare facilities, roles and responsibilities of healthcare professionals, importance of teak work and process improvement, as well as strategies for exploring the job market.

ABE Academic Support (please see advisor)19. Medical Terminology I- BTECM 150 Medical Terminology I (5 credits)
Course purpose: You are introduced to word forms, pre-fixes, suffixes, and root words. You will analyze medical terms through the knowledge of the Greek and Latin roots, prefixes, and suffixes. You will practice pronunciation and spelling of medical terms. You will learn how to utilize medical dictionary and other references, as well as the formation of nouns, adjectives, and plurals of medical words. Knowledge of medical terminiology is beneficial to the medical office administrative assistant when communicating with patients and medical clinicians. This course is broken into two 5-credit courses that cover all of the systems of the body. Note: Students use one bookfor both BTECM 150 and BTECM 151.
20. Microsoft Outlook- BTECA 180 Microsoft Outlook (3 credits)
Course purpose: You will demonstrate skills in each tool utilized in Outlook: Calendar, email, scheduling, tasks, etc. which most offices are using these days.
21. Human BiologyCourse purpose:You will gain a comprehensive study of the human body, its structure and its function. A non-lab course appropriate for non-science majors. Knowledge of anatomy and physiology is beneficial to the medical office administrative assistant when communicating with patients and medical clinicians.

Medical Claims and Insurance Management- BTECM 250 Medical Claims and Insurance Management (5 credits)
Course purpose:You will be introduced to a variety of medical forms used in industry: CMS-1500, UB-92, referrals, and referral requests. Students gain understanding of documentation guidelines and completion of medical claim forms for Medicare, Medicaid, private insurance, Worker’s Compensation, and Labor andIndustries.
26. Cooperative Work Experience- BTECA 246 Cooperative Work Experience II (5 credits)
Course purpose: You will gain practice in a workplace setting, while networking, establishing work experience for their resume, and hopefully ultimately gaining a job, which is what most students in the professional technical field want. Note: Students completing associates, should take this at the end of their program.
27. Human Relations in the Workplace- BUS 240 Human Relations in the Workplace (5 credits)
Course purpose:You will be able to distinguish personality styles, learning styles, conflict resolution strategies, and communication styles in order to develop the ability to work with myriad different personalities in the workplace.
28. Business Communications- BTECA 250 Business Communications (5 credits)
Course purpose: This course prepares you with advanced writing skills necessary for success in an office. In addition, you will synthesize and apply content previously acquired while learning how to write messages that build goodwill and positive relationships with clients and co-workers and writing for a specific purpose and audience.
29. Customer Relationship ManagementChoose one - MNGT 130 Customer Relationship Management (5 credits)
Course purpose: You should be able to demonstrate interpersonal communication skills with a diverse population internally and externally with clients, customers, and co-workers with a major focus on clients and customers. Or - MNGT 182 Creative Sales and Customer Relationship Management (5 credits)
Course purpose: In the workplace today, we need to know how to meet/exceed internal and external customer expectations and engage in the selling process. This course gives youthe tools for successful workplace customer engagement leading to customer loyalty. It also trains the selling process which is used to sell products, services, and ideas.
